Scientific Committee

The Scientific Committee establishes the journal’s scientific and thematic direction over the medium and long term, thereby contributing to its growth and its cultural positioning. It is also committed to promoting the journal within the academic community, thereby enhancing its visibility and prestige. Finally, it oversees compliance with the ethical standards of scientific research and publication, ensuring integrity and accountability throughout the editorial process.
To ensure an adequate number of articles during the initial phase of a journal’s launch, the Scientific Committee of newly published journals may be composed not only of high-quality scholars/researchers, but also of individuals actively engaged in identifying and motivating younger scholars who publish in the journal.

Paolo Sestito	Born in 1960, studied economics and business in Napoli, Ancona and London (LSE). He has been an active researcher in Banca d’Italia since 1984 as well as an economic policy adviser in the Economic Affairs DG of the EC in Bruxelles (1996-97), the Italian Mistry of Labour (1999-2006) and President of INVALSI (2012-13). At the OECD, he chaired the PIAAC Board (2008-2013) as well as the Employment and Social Affairs Committee (2006-08) and the Working Group on Employment (2001-06). Matthias von Davier	He is the J. Donald Monan, S.J., University Professor in Education; Executive Director, TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center, Boston College. Dr. von Davier’s research focuses on developing psychometric models for analyzing data from complex item and respondent samples and on integrating diagnostic procedures into these methods. He served as executive editorship for the British Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology (2013-2018) and for Psychometrika (2019-2023). His areas of expertise include topics such as item response theory, latent class analysis, classification and mixture distribution models, diagnostic models, computational statistics, person-fit, item-fit, and model checking, as well as hierarchical extension of models for categorical data analysis, and the analytical methodologies used in large scale educational surveys. Dr. von Davier’s applied research uses these methodologies to analyze data from educational testing, large-scale survey assessments of student skills and adult literacy, computer-based assessment of skills, and questionnaire data.
